Kapil Dev once said something very memorable to me.
But I have been quoting him ever since in my talks and presentations.
This is what Kapil said to me,
“Partnership? Cricket is all about partnerships. When partnerships end cricket ends too”
He was commenting on my then job title. “Advocacy and Partnership Specialist”.
That is true of life too. When partnerships end life ends too.
Without knowing it, Kapil summarized Advaita, the greatest Indian concept ever.
I often look back to my UNICEF career as a series of big and small partnerships and conspiracies.
All this came back to my mind because, after 19 long years I met Rupam Singh Gupta, my conspirator in Patna.
Rupam (then TOI, later Indian Express, Ahmedabad, India Today Delhi and Mint Delhi).
Many such partnerships were with young and not so young journalists and writers. We had this conspiracy to keep children in the news. Make children visible to the people who matter.
In Lucknow, it was Naheed Verma (Times of India), and Nipurn Gupta (Pioneer). And later Kulsum Talha, who kind of brought in all the media through the press club. Some incredible stories by Shailvee (TOI) too. The Lucknow conspiracy continues even now through Roli Khanna. (Dainik Bhaskar)
Rupam still retains her passion for writing on nation-building. How do you build a nation? By investing in women and children.
Rajesh’s young husband was a partner too. He was a great mobiliser for child protection, especially for children in care homes.
He is now a senior faculty member in mentoring startups. Unfortunately, I was not able to meet him during this visit to Ahmedabad. Next time, perhaps.
